Technology for speaking
Using technology in teaching English can give difference way than the common method. In this digital era, it is suggested for the teacher to apply the technology in teaching speaking. Using technology that related to speaking, for instance, the websites that created for speaking practice can give them opportunities to practice their speaking skill. Nowadays, there is a lot of websites that providing facilitation to speak with the real native speaker. It is good to be implemented so that they can learn how to communicate with the real native. Even though for students who live in the country that English is the foreign language which is hard to find native English speaker. It gives them chance to develop their speaking. There are also some websites that provide pronunciation practice. So it can improve students’ speaking skill.
The following are some websites for speaking practice
1. Skype
Skype has several major functions that help to connect with people all over the world via chat, voice and video. It can be used for the long distant place. The teacher can use it give opportunities for students to have real communication with the native speaker.
2. Duolingo
The main feature of Duolingo is a lesson which consists of several questions at various levels. the interesting part of this lesson is Duolingo provide speaking exercise which is helpful for a language learner.
3. Talk English
This website provides tons of audio for students to practice their speaking by repeating what the audio says
Lets Talk in English gives you the chance to talk in English. They have many many resources for writers.
BBC also provides lots of videos how to speak English well.
6. ENGLISH CLUB
A good site. They have a ton of resources for people who are just starting to speak English.
7. VOKI
This is a pretty fun site. It allows you to create an avatar of yourself and share it with others. You can practice speaking this way. It is more targeted toward Elementary school-age children, but the site is so neat, we had to list it.
REFLECTION
In the TELL class, I have introduced with some technology that the teacher can use in teaching speaking. Using technology is better for the teacher to apply in teaching and learning activity. There are a lot of websites that provided speaking opportunities with native speaker. In my opinion, after I learned technology for speaking in TELL class, I learned that the technology that available should be maximized by the teacher for learning purposes. Such the website that created for practicing speaking with native speaker and practicing pronunciation, this kind of website is good to be used in the classroom.
